A Summer Short

She nestled warmly into the hollows of the earth where longing lived and desire festered until those emotions were called and coaxed to the surface. But only her hand could offer that calling and it was due and expected although image source unknownharsh in the making. Frequent tears flooded our days as we awaited her arrival. Soon, she brought us promise of lasting light long into the evening which came upon us in a suddenness that, in retrospect, reflects the melting and fading of same such light as we move into her nether days.  It is hard not to think in that perspective – she’s here, though, fleeting in her comfort. Summer, welcome and embraced with such robust passion is too short lived to really get to know her; for she shines her warmth upon us and then is devoured with a chilly good-bye like an unfulfilled lover determined to escape.
